Tony Earnshaw is a novelist, poet, librettist and playwright whose work includes the novel Blessed Assurance (2019), the poetry collection Paths and Digressions (2021) and the immersive, site specific, promenade, community theatre projects Passion for the Planet (2021 and revised version 2023) and The Causeway (2022). Tony’s play The Door first appeared at Leatherhead Drama Festival and had its professional premiere at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2012 before transferring to the Charing Cross Theatre, London and Theater 59E59, New York. It was later revived as a double bill with The Speech, a modern political satire. He has received a number of awards for his plays which also include Satin Doll, Stabat Mater, Visiting Time, Little Brother and Sex is Another Language. Collaborations include Fred and Georgie, a play with songs by Simon Egerton, and co-writing the libretto for the choral pageant George and The Dragon, which premiered in 2014 and featured three choirs, orchestra, soloists and marching children. Tony has four poetry collections to his credit as well as a book for children, Tilly the Tadpole. Tony is currently working on a number of community projects. When not writing, Tony chairs Mole Valley Poets, is secretary of Mole Valley Scriptwriters and is a director of Terrestrial, a Bristol based Arts organisation and of Damn Cheek Productions CIC. In his spare time he sings with Brockham Choral and plays sax.
