A whole new world

Joining the ranks of independent authors

I’ve spent the week immersed in on line chats, closed Facebook groups, websites of marketing companies and you tube videos on the intricacies of being a publisher. All fascinating stuff, some of it a little confusing and a few acronyms thrown in for good measure.

I’ve been helped in all this by the team at Spiffing Covers who are always happy to answer my queries and by the Alliance of Independent Authors  – both the team there and my fellow members. Lots of people who have faced the same issues, dilemmas and decisions. I’ve published before of course but only poetry collections or plays and that was different. For the poetry collections I had a modest sales target – basically recoup the outlay – and for the plays publication is merely a step towards making them available for groups to perform. This is a novel, wanting a wider readership, and with potential for more to come.

KU, BGS, GoodReads and BookBub

Just some of the new possibilities opening up. On line networks, sales and marketing. I keep thinking it was easier to write the book. Then I remember the years of toil. So I’ll sign up to some of these, build the on line presence, and see what emerges. Just so long as I can still find the time to write – nicely into Act 2 of the latest play and needing to move it on a bit. I’m sure it will be smooth once I’m up and running. Cover design draft next week, editing going well. I’ll then be able to do some readings and launch events. Get out there and meet people. Again with help from my new colleagues and friends. Watch this space.
