A passionate launch

The back room at The Stepping Stones in West Humble was packed as locally based theatre company Damn Cheek Productions presented an evening of poetry, song and insights as part of their Mole Valley theatre project Passion for the Planet. The evening featured speakers from River Mole Watch and charity New Ways as well as singers from Brockham Choral and the Birch Tree choir and poets from Mole Valley Poets and Narnia Writers.

Humourous, informative and moving in turn, the evening drew together different strands of the environmental issues facing us and showcased some of the work being done to address these issues. The impetus for the evening was provided by the Passion for the Planet project which involves individuals, groups, schools, and others from across the Mole Valley in working with Damn Cheek to produce a site specific, immersive, theatrical experience in the Friends Meeting House in October. Plenty of enthusiasm and participation has already been generated but, as the play’s writer and director, Tony Earnshaw and Darren Cheek, explained, funds are needed to make it happen and part of the fundraising is a crowdfunding campaign which was launched at the event. The audience left inspired and happy, clutching the information needed to contribute to the crowdfunder.
